Andresa Soares — I’d rather not

I’d rather not is a dance solo traversed (or interrupted) by 20 meetings explicitly established with those who occupy the spectator´s place. In this performance two different scenic devices coexist: on one hand, the dance solo and on the other, the one-on-one meetings. The relevance of these meetings will then be proportional to the placement of the show to a secondary plan – its discredit. In any case let’s enjoy the situation, even if it’s only to dedicate ourselves to other matters. And, by the way, we ask those present that this time around they put the focus on themselves through the eminent refusal of what we have become and the strengthening of their subjectivity.

Bio

Choreographer and dancer based in Lisbon. Her artistic education was shared between the visual arts and dance, and from an early age she started working in the performative arts, having created more than 20 works. In 2002 she founded the Máquina Agradável which she co-directed with Lígia Soares until 2014.

Her work has crossed several artistic fields trying to freely traverse the use of the word, movement, image, sound, the presence of the public, or the conscious annulment of one of these parts using the constraint itself, according to the project´s demands. In her work, she also writes the texts that integrate the performances.

As an author, she highlights the following works: Iscas de Peixe-piça – um tratado sobre o erotismo; Era uma coisa mesmo muito abstracta; stage direction of Estados Eróticos Imediatos de Soren Kierkegaard; In a rear room – um tributo, co-created together with Ricardo Jacinto; artistic direction of Problema Técnico, Uma Estadia de 50Min, O Esplêndido, Os Mal Sentidos, Vala Comum and 3 Performances Para Microfone + Micro-Seres.

As a performer or actor, she has collaborated with José Laginha, Luís Castro, Nuno M. Cardoso, Ricardo Aibéo, Michel Simonot, Vera Mantero, Sílvia Pinto Coelho, Maria Ramos, BLITZ – Theatre Group among others, and has also participated in several feature and short films

Her work has been presented in Portugal, Germany, Spain, France and Brazil.
